Selecting the ~SB~Save╔~SB~ command from the ~SB~File~SB~ menu presents you with a standard file dialog asking you which file to save the image in. Clicking on the icons to the right of the file list sets the format for saving the image. For example; clicking on the GIF icon:

will save the image using the GIF file format. Some icons may not be ╥enabled╙ because it is not possible to save the image in that format. For example you cannot save a color image as a PICT file on a Macintosh without color QuickDraw because color QuickDraw is needed to create the color PICT file. Also you would not expect it to be possible to save a color image as a MacPaint file which is black and white ~SU~only~SU~.

You have to be careful when it comes to saving images in different formats. For example; if you open a PixelPaint file and save it as a GIF file then you have created an exact duplicate of the file but in a different format. If, however, you save it as a TIFF file you will be saving the image using 256 gray levels. All the color information ~SU~will be lost~SU~!
You cave save the selected portion of the image by clicking on the ~SB~Only Selection~SB~ option.
